Understanding Neurodivergence
How Neurodivergent Brains Process the World
Your neurodivergent brain experiences and interprets the world through a unique lens. Understanding these patterns isn’t about labelling deficits-it’s about honouring how you’re wired and building support around your authentic needs. You’re not too much or not enough; you’re processing differently.Therapy Can Support Neurodivergent Growth
Autism therapy and ADHD therapy are not about making your brain look more neurotypical. They are about giving you tools, language, and support that work with the way you already process the world. CTT Wellness provides neurodiversity affirming counselling that supports skill-building where you want it, identity work, and care for the anxiety, depression, or trauma that often comes from years of masking.Therapeutic Approaches We Use
We use evidence-based therapies tailored to neurodivergent brains. Standard protocols designed for neurotypical clients often do not work well for autism and ADHD, so we modify everything from pacing to communication style to sensory accommodations. You will never be asked to “fit” a therapy that was not designed for you.Modified Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Traditional CBT adapted for neurodivergent thinking patterns. We help you identify unhelpful thought patterns while respecting that your brain processes information differently. Concrete examples, visual supports, and structured sessions work better than abstract cognitive work. Available in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario and select Canadian provinces, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT focuses on building psychological flexibility through mindfulness, acceptance, values clarification, and committed action. Rather than trying to eliminate “ADHD thoughts” or “autistic traits,” ACT helps you notice these experiences without letting them control your choices. Available in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Adapted for Neurodivergence
EMDR adapted for autistic and ADHD clients uses three core principles: flexibility, clear communication, and awareness of individual differences. We use theme-based targeting, allow for sensory breaks, honour non-verbal processing, and integrate parts work when needed. Available in person at our St. Catharines and Kitchener clinics (coming soon to Oakville/Grimsby), virtually across Ontario and select Canadian provinces, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.
Mindfulness and Nervous System Regulation Techniques
Traditional mindfulness can be overwhelming for neurodivergent nervous systems. We teach modified mindfulness practices that account for sensory sensitivities, racing thoughts, and body awareness challenges. You will learn grounding techniques, sensory regulation strategies, and ways to calm your nervous system that actually work for your brain. Available in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario and select Canadian provinces, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.
Narrative Therapy and Identity Work
Explore and reclaim your neurodivergent identity. Process the impact of being told you are “too much” or “not enough” your whole life. Separate yourself from deficit-based narratives and rewrite your story from a neurodiversity affirming perspective that honours both your strengths and your support needs. Available in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario and select Canadian provinces, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.
Family Therapy and Parent Coaching
For children and adolescents, we work with the whole family system. Parents learn about neurodivergence, how to support sensory and emotional needs, how to reduce demands that lead to burnout, and how to create home environments where neurodivergent children can thrive authentically. Available in person at our Oakville, Grimsby, and St. Catharines clinics, virtually across Ontario, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.

You Do Not Need a Formal Diagnosis to Reach Out
If you have spent years feeling like the world was built for someone else’s brain, that recognition is enough. Self-identified, late-identified, formally diagnosed, or “just exploring whether this might be me” — all of it is welcome here.
A free 15-minute consultation is a low-pressure way to ask questions, hear how a session actually works, and decide if it feels right. Reach out by phone, email, or our online form. Sensory friendly options available.
Neurodivergent Support Across Every Stage of Life
Neurodivergence is lifelong, and your support needs will change as you move through different life stages. We provide neurodiversity-affirming therapy for every age.
For children
For children, early intervention focuses on helping them understand their unique neurodivergent traits, building emotional regulation skills, developing natural social communication (not forced neurotypical conformity), and supporting parents in creating neurodivergent friendly environments. Developmental therapy at this stage uses play-based, creative approaches that do not require sitting still or making eye contact, honouring how your child actually engages with the world.
