Trauma Therapy

If something that happened to you is still showing up in your body, your sleep, your relationships, or your nervous system, you are not imagining it. Trauma therapy at CTT Wellness offers a safe, paced way to process what has been holding you back, with evidence-based care for PTSD, complex trauma, and the wounds that do not always have words.

What is Trauma and PTSD?

Trauma occurs when an event overwhelms our capacity to cope, leaving an imprint on the brain, body, and relationships. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is the persistent, dysregulated response when these imprints remain unprocessed. Complex trauma includes repeated or relational harm (e.g., childhood abuse) that affects identity and self-regulation. Types of trauma include acute (a single incident), relational/developmental (ongoing), and complex (multiple events, often interpersonal). Common reactions-fight, flight, freeze, fawn-are natural survival responses. Emotional (anxiety, guilt, shame), physical (pain, sleep issues, hyper-arousal), and relational symptoms (difficulty trusting, emotional numbing) are all part of the landscape. Secondary trauma (exposure to others’ trauma) and delayed onset of symptoms are also real; healing can begin at any time.

When Past Experiences Still Hurt

Trauma therapy offers a safe, paced exploration of what has happened — never forcing the past, but gently helping you rebuild emotional safety through emotional regulation therapy and nervous system support. You will restore autonomy, rebuild trust, and reconnect to life with renewed strength. Trauma healing is possible at any age and any stage.

How Trauma Therapy Can Help

Your past does not have to determine your future. Trauma therapy is not about reliving your pain — it is about finally processing it so your nervous system can release what it has been holding. At CTT Wellness, we create a safe container where healing happens at your pace. We help you rebuild emotional safety, regulate your nervous system, and restore your sense of agency. Through evidence-based approaches combined with somatic awareness, you will learn that your body can be a place of safety again. You will develop tools for therapy for flashbacks, manage triggers, rebuild trust in yourself and others, and reconnect with the parts of you that trauma tried to silence. Trauma therapy is offered in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario and select Canadian provinces, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions, so you can choose the setting where you feel safest. Trauma Therapy Approaches We Use

We combine cutting-edge neuroscience with compassionate, body-centred care. Every technique we use is backed by research showing how the brain and nervous system heal from trauma. We do not just talk about your trauma — we help your body process and release it through proven approaches tailored to how you heal best.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Helps your brain reprocess traumatic memories using bilateral stimulation, allowing stuck experiences to move from your survival brain to long-term memory where they belong. Available in person at our St. Catharines and Kitchener clinics, virtually across Ontario and select Canadian provinces, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Identifies and reshapes thought patterns that keep you stuck, building practical skills for managing trauma responses in everyday life. Available in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario and select Canadian provinces, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.

Somatic Experiencing

Releases trauma stored in your body by tracking physical sensations and completing interrupted survival responses your nervous system could not finish during the traumatic event. Available in person at our Grimsby and St. Catharines clinics, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions. Not currently offered virtually.

Narrative Therapy

Helps you separate yourself from your trauma story and rewrite the narrative from one of victim to survivor to thriver. Available in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario and select Canadian provinces, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Works with the different parts of you that developed to survive trauma, helping them feel safe enough to heal and integrate. Available in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.

Mindfulness and Grounding Techniques

Anchors you in the present moment when your nervous system gets activated, teaching your body that “right now, in this moment, you are safe.” Available in person at our Ontario clinics, virtually across Ontario and select Canadian provinces, and in-home or community in select Ontario regions.

You Do Not Have to Carry This Alone

If you have been wondering whether what happened “counts” as trauma, whether you are “too far gone,” or whether therapy can really help, the answer is the same. Yes. Your experience is valid, healing is possible, and the only step required right now is the first one. A free 15-minute consultation gives you space to ask questions, hear what working with a trauma-trained therapist looks like, and decide if it feels right. No pressure, no commitment, no need to share more than you are ready to.

Trauma & PTSD Support for Every Age & Stage

Trauma doesn’t discriminate, and neither does healing. Whether you experienced trauma in childhood, adolescence, or adulthood-whether it happened last month or decades ago-your nervous system can learn safety again. We work with children processing frightening experiences they don’t have words for yet, teens navigating the world with a hypervigilant nervous system, adults carrying wounds from childhood, and older adults finally ready to address what they’ve carried for years. We also support parents in healing their own trauma so they can break cycles and create safety for their children. No matter your age or how long you have been carrying this pain, it is never too late to heal. Your younger self is still inside you, and they deserve the care you are seeking now. We offer complex trauma recovery support across all life stages, with childhood trauma therapy for survivors who are finally ready to address what they have carried.
